The New Covenant congregation has recently concluded a study of this book and become actively involved in conversation about how the concepts described impact our church and the Christian church at large.
We may not think that canoes or mountains have anything to do with us since we live on the DelMarVa peninsula. While the book speaks of scaling the Rocky Mountains, this 'Lewis and Clark' metaphor does speak to all of us.
Although explorers Lewis and Clark were prepared to find a waterway to the Pacific Ocean, they instead found themselves facing the Rocky Mountains. At times, we all feel unprepared for things we face, including how the modern church environment is impacted by changes in society.
We are navigating uncharted territory, and if we are going to scale the mountain of ministry in the world today, we need to consider what we need to leave behind and find new navigational tools.
